Well I know that I have a distaste for zombie games at this point. Companies trying to shoehorn in motion controls into games that don't need them(Mass Effect with Kinect and Bioshock Infinite with Move) is really starting to get on my nerves. Retailer specific pre-order bonuses. I have to stop myself or this comment could get out of hand. Love the show, keep up the good work.
P.S. What do I have to do to get a spot of the F 'Em list?

Re: Question of the week: Trends in gaming you’re tired of

Tired Trends- Middle eastern people shown only as enemies in war games. Moreover, the Chinese always portrayed as puppet masters of terrorism, but never a partner to western governments.- The ever increasing level of melodrama used in Japanese video game stories. Not every story needs to be amped up to eleven, and not every enemy needs to turn into a ninja-vampire-robot. - White men being the protagonist (or team of protagonists) in military shooters. Where are the women? Where are the characters of non-western European racial extraction? If the game is historical then that is fine....whatever...but maybe pick another era of part of history so we can see another other people!- Zombies are tired, but can I PLEASE tell the game industry that I am pre-tired of vampires too. If you make a vampire game just know I’m already tired of it. I’m tired of wolf-men, mummies, and xenomorph-bug aliens too. I want more robots and cats.

Re: Question of the week: 2012 predictions

Predictions 2012

1) Both Sony and Microsoft do that"We're not gonna tell you about our new systems...but oh man the future is bright!!!" speech at e3.

2) By year's end everyone will notice that despite Microsoft pushed very hard with Kinect, there still won't be "killer apps"...hardware sells game will not.

3) Sony will be even worse. The hardware will have sold fair, but not even Sony will talk about it or even fake enthusasim. [Price is Right Fail Horn]

4) Someone will hack a PS Vita and will show it doing some AMAZING thing while jail-broken. It will be a crazy 'not possible with another device' thing. A decent surge in sales will occur with geeks dropping $300 to by a Vita...but no software sale to help Sony.

5) At the Sony booth the word will be "That Last of Us" is THE zombie game done right. Leaving e3 it will be the hot Sony property people talk about breathlessly.

6) Halo 4 will get botched or disappoint on some level. At e3 it will look good, but as it approaches launch something will screw up....maybe previews before release will be lukewarm.

7) Wii U will have weak sales after the first few weeks, expect deep price cuts, bundled games, and every trick in the book to jump start sales.

8) Apple will deal with the Foxcon issue because some workers will do somthing that is shown on the nightly news ...people on fire/dead bodies in piles....it will make a huge change HAVE TO occur. The human cost of technology becomes a big story.

9) Todd Howard is booed by several members of the audience at his GDC keynote. Nobody will remember his speech everyone will remember the boos.

10) Sometime in January 2013 a leak will occur about the Next XBox. It will be a spot on, with all the facts release. Microsoft will scamble to cutoff the leak, but it will be too late.

Re: The Rise to Power Begins Now With Dragon Age II

Well, interesting post,
thanks!

Re: The Smashed Bros. ha.

I hope not. We keep on increasing the graphical barrier and yet hitting the same limits over and over again. "We are running out of video memory, on board memory, Unreal Engine 3, etc". Why do you think HD ports are awesome? It's because we stripped them of those limitations. If we jump to the next generation, all we are doing in just increasing the variable of those limitations.

Re: QotW: Is The Next next gen, they want ports of current gen games for the WiiU and it would hurt Nintendo for the next gen to come too quickly. And, I think Sony and MS are in no rush to move either given the worldwide economy. PSNext and XBoxNet would appear until 2014 because they is what everyone wants.
<dc:creator make games that would be guilty pleasures for me. Firstly, I have no shame. Nevertheless, I think what might come close would be how in an RPG, I spend about 20x longer tweaking the character then most people would. I like the paper-doll aspect of making the character and then dressing them up. That is the only thing about PSN Home I like, you can dress you avarat up.
<dc:creator there are a lot more mature (chronologically of course) gamers out there so if I were to consider what would be a guilty pleasure...for me it would be something considered to be a kids game.Pokemon is a prime example but I am going to go with a PS2 game that I have recently started playing again. Yu-gi-oh Duelists of the Roses. This became a guilty pleasure for me because when I first started gaming on the PS2, it was one of the first games I bought for my kids and it was one of the first games that I actively wrote about in a certain online gaming community that rhymes with rap. Needless to say I was not expecting the response I got about the game even after I wrote it up to be what it is...

Remember that card game War? Highest card wins? Now imagine that with monsters that battle it out on various terrains that either give you a bonus or take away from and it plays like Chess (the board/playing field). It is a great game simply because of the replayability factor. With over 800 cards to collect, this game will either be maddeningly monotonous or exciting because you never know how the cards will come up and no two games are ever the same.

Factor in the battle scenes, ritual cards, trading and you have a very simple game with a ton of replayability.
<dc:creator graphics....

I think the answers are more complex since play/story/graphics can be interesting (fresh) or well presented (logical). Even a dull play/story/graphics can be well crafted for what they are.

What I always want is a 'well told' story, it could be a hack-knee story, but I just want it well told. A good story would make you say, "Oh wow that really makes you think!", but a well told story could be something you have heard a million times...but stands out because how it progresses, how the dialogue fits, and how the arc of the story moves is well executed.

The biggest issue is games if often they are interesting, but so poorly told. Sadly it is not just games that are going that way. Many books and movies are now so poorly constructed as narratives that they waste good ideas. This fits into may rant about Suda 51 on FB, he wastes good idea by tearing the ideas apart with a narrative that seemly has passed through a wood-chipper.

Re: Aimless Podcasts Episode 167- Being Aimless With The Audience

The only way I ever used a "Game Shark" was to see the content not in games like Resident Evil 2. There were a few rooms and characters you could see from RE 1.5 if you used Game Shark for PSX. The first PlayStatiosn use of discs was a boon for gamers who wanted to see hidden content because Game Shark could easily access parts of the disc.

But as you all said, now most developers allow you see see most of that anyway. Pop in your BR disc and you can watch all teh cut scenes from Uncharted, play the game through with another character acting like Drake, or play the game in mirror mode.

Re: Aimless Podcasts Episode 167- Being Aimless With The Audience

For what it is worth, I'm glad you are back.
